"Four iconic suffragettes are mysteriously transported back to London in 2017 where, aided by their newly recruited young intern, they set out to "finish what they started over 100 years ago..." PLAY DEVELOPMENT - THE GIRLS ARE BACK IN TOWN started life in 2014 as a short play with a different title that had a rehearsed reading at the Berry Theatre in Hedge End. Several re-writes later, two scenes were successfully work-shopped by Scene Gym/Old Vic New Voices at the Old Vic Workrooms in 2017. The, by now re-named and extended, play was featured in an Undercover Productions' Zoom Workshop in 2020 prior to another re-write in 2022. The current version of the play then received a final read-through at the Plaza Theatre in Romsey in 2022 and was subsequently long-listed (out of 1,466 entries) for THEATRE 503's prestigious 2023 International Playwriting Award! THE GIRLS ARE BACK IN TOWN was published by LAZY BEE SCRIPTS on in 2023 and can be read/purchased here. |
